PET-FRIENDLY BEACHES IN TORREVIEJA

It was a total success in 2018 the idea of opening four areas, on four different beaches in Torrevieja, was given where the furry ones could enjoy.

Currently, of the 4 dog beaches in Torrevieja, 2 of them are open to the enjoyment of four-legged dogs, one of which is located between Cala Ferris and the Rocío del Mar urbanization and the other in Cala la Mosca, which although is located in Orihuela Costa, It can be accessed from Torrevieja.

Rocio del Mar beach

This pet-frienly beach area is located to the south of Torrevieja, between Cala Ferris and Playa de Rocío del Mar with an extension of around 1600m2.

It can be reached by car up to about 100m before the beach.

This beach is open and accessible throughout the year and 24 hours a day, so there is no excuse for dogs to enjoy, socialize and run without fear.

En la beach, no hay fuente para dar agua a los animales, así que es recomendable llevarse agua.

You can find a sign at the entrance to the beach where it indicates some basic rules:

  • Nervous dogs must be on a leash.
  • The droppings must be collected and deposited in the bin properly in a closed bag.
  • The owners are responsible for any damage that the animal may cause.
  • It is totally forbidden for animals to be outside the limits of the area established for them.

Dog owners will be able to enjoy a bath with their pet and if you also bring them a water toy, the fun will be much greater.

Cala de la Mosca

This open area for the use and enjoyment of dogs, has an area of 3300m2, although it belongs to Orihuela Costa, it is in the border of Torrevieja to the south.

How to get to La Cala de la Mosca

Unlike the Rocío del Mar beach, where it is rather rocky, this beach has a large area of sand, in addition to its strategic location, it allows dogs total freedom without fear of escaping.

This beach is frequented every day by owners and dogs of all nationalities, where you can socialize in countless languages.

As in the other beach, it is recommended to bring water for the animals, however there is a shower where dogs can be cleaned.

The excellent strategic location of the beach, as mentioned before, makes access a bit special since you have to go down some steps dug into the rock/earth that can be a bit dangerous, especially for elder people.

Tips for spending a day at the beach with your dog

To spend a day of enjoyment with our pet on the beach, we must take into account a series of details:

  • Bring water, a drinker and offer water on a regular basis.
  • It is not recommended they drink sea water.
  • Keep an eye on body heat so don't get heat stroke
  • Prevent from eating sand.
  • Be careful where walk or run, because if it is very hot they can burn the pads.
  • In the water, where there are no currents and in an area that is not too deep.
  • Be careful if there are jellyfish, urchins or objects that can harm them such as cans, crystals, sharp rocks....
  • If there are showers, use them when leaving to remove sand, especially from the area of the face, eyes and ears.
  • And, of course, do not leave droppings, deposit them in a closed bag in the trash.
