TORREVIEJA BEACHES

Torrevieja is one of the most popular vacation destinations, whether it is national or international tourism. Let's go on a tour of the Torrevieja beaches. With a 17km coastline, we can choose among four fine sand beaches, several coves, three natural pools and a port basin.

The beaches of Torrevieja during the middle and high season have a lifeguard service, public toilets, water games and hammock service. The beaches are cleaned every day so that at the beginning of the morning they are in perfect condition.

Playa del cura

It is located in the central area of the city. Fine golden sand beach. It is believed that its name comes from a priest who drowned on that beach according to texts from the 19th century. It is a small beach with access for people with reduced mobility. It is bordered by the Juan Aparicio promenade, with ice cream parlors, restaurants and shops. The promenade is characterized by its palm trees and banana trees along it.

Playa de los locos

It was known as Playa del Salaret, but at the beginning of the 20th century a psychiatric sanatorium was located in front of the beach, which made it known from that moment on as Playa de los locos.

It is larger than Playa del Cura and has the same sand characteristics, as well as offering the same lifeguard services, toilets, games and hammocks. The avenue of Mariano Ruiz Cánovas runs along the beach, who was the director of the "sanatorio del Carmen", the psychiatric sanatorium that was built next to the beach.

Along Mariano Ruiz Cánovas avenue there are pubs, restaurants, cafeterias and shops.

Playa de los náufragos

This beach is located south of Torrevieja. Its name stuck due to several shipwrecks that happened in previous centuries.

It is one of the most popular beaches in Torrevieja, a meeting point for many young people because it has facilities to play volleyball and enough space to play with the ball. Well known especially on the nights of San Juan where groups of young and not so young come together to enjoy that magical night.

It is a beach with good sand. In the middle and high season, like the other beaches, they offer all kinds of services. It is bordered by a small promenade with restaurants and beach bars.

Playa de la mata

Beach located north of Torrevieja. It is the longest beach in Torrevieja and is about 6 km. from the center of Torrevieja and due to its extension it is divided into two parts, the north and the south. It is a fantastic beach, it gives more of a non-urban beach feeling because in the southern area it offers a landscape with dunes that go inland and are within the Molino de Agua Park Natural Area..

This beach is open sea, it is not protected on the sides by natural or artificial barriers. It is a beach where you have to be careful when bathing due to its currents and wave formation precisely because it is open. This does not mean that you can enjoy its waters and sand.

Port dock or playa del acequión

Although it is not officially a beach, it is popularly known as Playa del Acequión. It does not have services like the previous ones due to its unofficial nature. It is located in the urban area and within the port bay.

It is an ideal beach for families with children where they can bathe safely, just like the elderly. It has a wooden walkway for access and a footbath.

Natural pools

Near the playa del cura to the south, there are three natural pools. They arose as part of the remodeling of the promenade. Its name comes from being beaches without waves and located between rocks and breakwaters. They have fine sand and also a paved area with ramps and stairs with handrails for better access to the water for people with reduced mobility.

Calas

Between Playa de los Locos and Playa de la Mata, there are countless rocky coves where you can enjoy snorkeling and some privacy for those who try to avoid the overcrowded beaches at certain times of the year.

Their names are below:

  • cala cornuda
  • cala de los trabajos
  • cala tía roqueta
  • cala del gambote
  • cala redonda
  • cala de la higuera
  • cala de la zorra
  • cala del mojón
  • cala del moro
  • cala cabo cervera

Cabo Cervera is perhaps the best known and the one that determines the beginning of La Mata beach.

We have focused on the Torrevieja area, but following the coastline both to the north and to the south, there are still very interesting beaches, coves and areas to discover and enjoy.
