WHAT IS THE SENSE OF CHRISTMAS?

The Christmas season leaves no one indifferent.

Let's deep beyond traditions into the true meaning of Christmas

Above the rituals associated with these dates, we will see how this period affects the process of human development.

HISTORICAL ORIGIN OF DECEMBER 25

El sentido de la navidad

December 25 is similar to the pagan holidays that coincided with the winter solstice that the Romans celebrated in honor of the god of agriculture and harvest: Saturn, between December 17 and 23

During those days the farmers finished their work, the slaves were allowed to postpone their tasks and the Romans went to visit family and friends, exchanging gifts and celebrating great banquets.

For 7 days the slaves did not receive any punishment and enjoyed more permissibility than normal.

WHAT DOES DECEMBER 25 REPRESENT?

This date is related to the birth of different gods, such as Mitra (Persian sun god), Krishna (Vishnu god of India) or Jesus Christ (god of Christianity), but in fact it is more of an astrological reference and not historical.

Winter is when the earth sleeps and prepares for the birth of the new sun which brings the resurgence of light, warmth and fertility.

That is the reason of on those dates the trees were simbocalically decorated with lights in honor of Mother Earth.

WHAT IS CHRISTMAS?

In the sense of what has been said, Christmas is actually a way of thanking Mother Earth or Mother Nature what was received during the year and asking for those same blessings for the next.

This ritual has continued over the years until it has developed into the deeply rooted custom of giving gifts at Christmas.

The fact that are magical beings (Santa Claus, The Three Wise Kings, Saint Nicholas.....) who bring the gifts is a way of honoring the invisible divinities that individuals venerated thousands of years ago.

MOMENT OF REFLECTION AND PURPOSES

This period of lethargy, end and resurgence of the sun and what entails, such as prosperity and abundance, makes it a time of reflection and introspection about what we have done and what we want to do.

Then is a moment of reflection, of reunion, of closing one circle and opening another, of reconciliation and forgiveness.

It is the time of the new year´s resolutions, to create dreams and seek new goals.

UPHOLDING THE SENSE OF CHRISTMAS

It is important for individuals to go through these states of self-evaluation. Use Christmas in the sense in which our ancestors lived it, giving gratitude for what was received and asking for the future.

Thanks for reading this reflection beyond the commercialism that is currently given to Christmas.
